Capacity Development workshops

CRISP organized two capacity development programmes aimed at promoting innovation systems perspectives.

1. Rural Innovations-emphasizing the post harvest sector

This workshop was organized at ICRISAT, Patancheru, Hyderabad during 22-29 November 2004. Twenty participants representing research, extension, policy, export promotion and NGO sector representing post harvest related activities attended this workshop.  The programme was organized in collaboration with the National Centre for Agricultural Economics and Policy Research (NCAP), New Delhi; National Institute for Science, Technology and Development Studies (NISTADS), New Delhi and United Nations University, Maastricht.

2. Applying Innovation Systems Perspectives in Agricultural Research

This workshop was organized during 22-24 November 2005 at ICRISAT for the senior managers of the Indian agricultural research system in collaboration with the National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). 17 research managers from the  ICAR and the State Agricultural Universities participated in this workshop. The three-day workshop addressed the functioning and constraints faced by agriculture research organizations in India. The emphasis was on understanding the current features that inhibit research organizations to develop their ability to innovate in relation to rural sector and agriculture research. The workshop was funded by the CPHP-SA. The programme was organized in collaboration with the UNU-MERIT,National Centre for Agricultural Economics & Policy Research( NCAP) and the Centre for Policy Research(CPR).

A report of the Capacity Development Workshop on “Applying Innovations Systems Perspectives in Agricultural Research

Regional Workshop on "Learning with financial organization for enabling rural innovation", 9-10 December 2005, Guwahati

This workshop was organized by the Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi in collaboration with North Eastern Development Finance Corporation (NEDFi, Guwahati), CRISP, Hyderabad, Center for Technology and Development (CTD, New Delhi), United Nations University – Institute for New Technology (UNU/INTECH, Maastricht). The purpose of this workshop was to explore the ways in which banks and other financial organizations enable rural innovation and thereby lead to rural development.

Curriculum Development

CRISP facilitated the piloting of a course on innovation systems using the existing material of the CPHP network of researchers. The key question addressed during this work was: How the concept of innovation systems could be introduced into a higher education curriculum? The curriculum was developed and pilot tested as a twenty-week course between October to December 2005, with students at the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubneswar.

Policy Interactions

CRISP researchers are part of several national and international forums related to agricultural science and technology, agricultural extension, bio-diversity and GMOs. This includes, International Assessment of Agricultural Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD), Working Group on Agricultural Extension constituted by the Planning Commission for XI Plan and Task Force on Biodiversity and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) for the Environment and Forests Sector for the XI FYP (2007-2012).
